OneKid OneWorld
The mission of OneKid OneWorld is simple: to make a difference in the lives of children in need around the globe: One world, one school, one kid, at a time. We are an education and sports based grassroots organization partnering U.S high school students with rural schools and kids in refugee camps in war torn and poverty stricken areas of the world. One soccer ball and one notebook can have a profound affect on the lives of kids who have nothing. Yes, it’s a little victory but our goal is to make all of those little victories add up to one big one.
Our new MAIN PROJECT for 2008 was the LOLKUNIYANI PRIMARY SCHOOL in the Samburu Region of northern Kenya. The school was reconstructed with the help of our partners at The Samburu Project.
In a place where most kids DON’T FINISH THE 4TH GRADE, primary school education is the key. This school attracts students from almost twenty (20) km away. There are more than a hundred other kids who would like to attend the school but there is simply not enough room and no one to teach them.
Here is what the LOLKUNIYANI PRIMARY SCHOOL had before:
* One classroom, two teachers and less than forty (40) desks for over one hundred and fifty (150) students. And because there are no teacher residences, the school’s two teachers are forced to sleep in the classroom at night.
Here is what we did in 2008 alone:
· We built two (2) new classrooms, bought desks for every student, built a water catchment system, bought books and supplies for the entire school and paid salary’s for two (2) new teachers for the entire year.
All of this was accomplished for less than $50,000. That’s right, for less than the price of a Range Rover, we transformed an entire community overnight. That is the power we all have.
