Lucas Lekwale | Project Manager and NGO Representative
With the help of our Community Based Organization (CBO) in Wamba, Kenya, Lucas has been running the day to day operations for The Samburu Project in Wamba since June 2007. He received his diploma in community development from Kenya Polytechnic and has a wide range of experience working with community organizations including Samburu Intregrated Develogment Programme, Child Concern, and Christian Children’s Fund. His experience has revolved around community mobilization, sensitization, trainings and empowerment.
Lucas has served as Program Manager of The Samburu Project Kenya CBO since its inception. Through his work with The Samburu Project, Lucas’ leadership role in the community has grown exponentially and in February 2009 he was appointed NGO Representative for Samburu East. As NGO Representative, he sits on the District Development Committee, which is responsible for planning and implementing all District development projects. The District Commissioner and the area Member of Parliament jointly head the Development Committee.
In his capacity of Project Manager for The Samburu Project Kenya CBO, Lucas makes recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors on which communities to target for water projects and how best to serve these communities once clean water is established. Lucas oversees the entire well drilling process from start to finish, working directly with participating communities, hydrogeologist and drilling team. Following construction, he continues to work closely with community water committee to monitor well operations and maintenance. In addition to well project management, Lucas coordinates all CBO activities on the ground in Kenya, working alongside government officials and entities to maximize the benefit of The Samburu Project. His management of Samburu Project’s partnership activities includes, One Kid One World’s Lolkunyani Primary School Project, in which he helped to mobilize the community and oversaw the project.
Mussa Lekwale | Country Coordinator
Mussa is the Chief Security Officer at Governor’s Camp in Maasai Mara, Kenya. He is responsible for the security at Governor’s seven camps with over 300 staff and 500 VIP visitors from Asia, America and Europe. Prior to joining Governor’s Camp, Lekwale was in the Kenya Armed Forces. There, he underwent intensive military training, graduated and was honored by The Chief of Staff and Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kenya, Retired President Moi. He was distinguished as the Best in the College and posted to Kenya Army Infantry unit. Because of his inherent desire to pursue education, he advanced his skills by undertaking courses in military science, intelligence and terrorism at the Kenya military training college. After becoming the best in weapon & explosives handling and the best sniper, he became an instructor. He was quickly recognized by his seniors and promoted through the ranks. Lekwale served in Somalia and on a peace keeping mission in former Republic of Yugoslavia in conjunction with United Nations Protection Force and United Military Observers (UNPROFOR) and UNMOS). He retired honorably after serving for sixteen years.
